'What is a baby?' asked Barbara Luddy's Lady. What is a suit?, we might ask in reply.
The L.E.J case for it follows the same philosophy as our shirts - make them beautiful, use the best materials and techniques, but make them playful + free. Throw the rule book in the infinity pool, and do what the hell you like with it.
This unlined gallerist's blessing, then, is sewn with single needle shirt-style construction - as the Plage, as our shirts - and is as ready as them all to be worn, torn, patched + romanced. Carefully engineered + lovingly laboured over to be free of any internal gubbins and/or weight, the only slight piece of structural support being the self-binding around the inner armhole; the intention to slightly swell the sleevehead, giving a familiarly formal, yet pleasingly unknown-until-now line of quiet strength through the shoulder. We have studied + tweaked, and are ever closer to enlightenment.
Expect a gently shaped waist, generous lapels, and a subtle but definite shoulder. There's not a scrap of lining in sight, so you can feel loose and fancy free on summer's hottest days.
If you do jump in the pool, just be sure to get chlorine on both trousers and veste.
Here in a stony blue + sumptuously muted Irish linen which we've washed to give a little age. It's a kind of sarsen stone, a little slate. We'll call it Granite, then.
